SEO for Middlesbrough businesses, from someone who grew up here

I’m Jack, a web designer from Eston. SEO for a Middlesbrough business isn’t about ranking across the country. It’s about showing up when someone in Middlesbrough, Stockton or Redcar searches for what you do, in the three places they look:

I search from Middlesbrough, not from a tool

Google shows different results depending on where you’re standing, so a ranking report from a tool in London tells you very little about Linthorpe Road. Every Found Check and monthly report I make uses searches set to your town: what a customer in Middlesbrough actually sees on Google, on the map and in ChatGPT, with screenshots.

Between 12 and 24 October 2026 I checked 42 Teesside businesses with 4.7 stars or more on Google, searching from their own town the way a customer would. 25 of them weren’t in the Google Maps top 5 for their own search, and 15 weren’t even in the top 10. Eight of those had 50 reviews or more.

Most of them were on my list because they had no website of their own: 39 of the 42 had none linked on their Google profile, and on 13 the Website button just opened Facebook. Good reviews get you noticed; a clear page saying what you do and where is what gets you shown.

The same few things hold most of them back: no Google Business Profile, or one with the wrong category and old hours; great reviews on Facebook that Google can’t see; and a website (or just a Facebook page) that never says what you do and which town you’re in. There’s more on each of these in why a business isn’t showing on Google.

Showing up in ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers

When I searched “SEO Middlesbrough” from Middlesbrough, Google didn’t show a map at all. It showed an AI answer built from other agencies’ pages: their lists of what they include and what they charge. AI tools can only name a business they can read clear facts about.

So the Search Fix makes your name, address, phone and hours match everywhere and gives you a written list of what your website needs to say, and Grow adds a new answer to your site every month, in short plain paragraphs Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity can quote. Nobody controls what an AI says, but this gives you the best chance of being the one it names.

How long does local SEO take to work in Middlesbrough?

Fixes to your Google Business Profile and listings can move your Google Maps position within weeks. Climbing the normal search results usually takes a few months, because Google builds trust over time. Every month you get a report showing exactly what’s moved.

How do I get into the Google Maps top 3 in Middlesbrough?

Google looks at three things: how relevant your profile is to the search, how close you are to the person searching, and how well known and trusted you are. You can’t move your business, but a complete profile, steady new reviews and the same details everywhere improve the other two.

Can you guarantee me first place on Google?

No, and nobody honestly can. Anyone promising #1 is guessing or breaking Google’s rules. What I promise is that every fix makes you easier to find, and that you see where you stand every month, searched from your own town.

Do you do SEO in Stockton, Redcar and the rest of Teesside?

Yes. I work with businesses across Teesside, including Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar, Eston, Guisborough, Billingham, Thornaby, Yarm and Hartlepool, and each check is searched from your own town.
